Is Foundations actually a real martial arts course?
It isn't a sample or a teaser. It's the real beginning of Tang Soo Do and Soo Bahk Do training, at no cost.
Across 26 lessons you'll learn dojang etiquette, how rank and certification actually work, the fundamentals of stance and technique, and an introduction to forms. By the end, you'll be ready to test for your first official rank: 9th Gup, white belt with a stripe.
Taught by Brian Corrales, Sa Bom
6th Dan, certified through the US Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation and serving on the Federation's Technical Advisory Committee. Read about his training and lineage
Whether you train with him in person in Salt Lake City or entirely online, it's the same instructor and the same standard.
Curriculum
"The training has been fantastic. I love the content that you provide. Soo Bahk Do seems to check all of the boxes for me. It’s nearly impossible to find legitimate training online with a reputable federation. I’m so glad that Digital Dojang, and Soo Bahk Do is moving into the future with Distance Learning."
—Mike, Tae Kwon Do enthusiast
"I highly recommend the Digital Dojang — it’s been wonderful to refer to each day for practice from home, keeping the training alive between classes. I am deeply grateful to call this my martial arts home."
— Lisa, Green Belt
"Master Corrales is a tantalizing teacher. He has diversified his martial arts knowledge, realizing the strength and depth of internal and external practices. His presentation of material is clear and insightful to practitioners of all levels. I am always excited when I know he will be instructing!"
— Andy, 6th Dan
Why is this free?
I built Foundations to remove the only real barrier to starting: not knowing if this is for you. There's no reason that should cost you anything.
You'll train the same fundamentals, learn the same etiquette, and be held to the same standard as any student walking into my dojang in Salt Lake City. If you decide to keep going toward your first official rank, that's a separate step — but Foundations itself isn't a funnel dressed up as a course. It's the real thing.
READY TO BEGIN?
Twenty-six lessons. Real instruction. No cost to start.
What happens after Foundations?
By the end of this course you'll have real skill under you, not just an introduction. If you want to keep going toward your first official rank, the next step is the White/Orange Belt course, where you'll complete the rest of what 9th Gup requires and prepare for your first quarterly evaluation. That's entirely optional, and entirely up to you.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need any equipment to start?
No. You can begin Foundations in whatever you're comfortable moving in. The uniform care section covers the do bok once you're ready for one.
Is this the same training as your in-person students get?
Yes. Same instructor, same curriculum, same standard. Corrales Sa Bom certifies both in-person and online students through the same US Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation.
Will I actually earn a real rank?
Foundations gets you ready for your first test. Testing itself requires Federation membership and the White/Orange Belt course, which is covered in the "How rank certification actually works" lesson.
How long does Foundations take?
At your own pace — there's no clock running. Some lessons are a couple of minutes, some longer. You move forward when you're ready, not on a schedule.
Can I do this on my phone?
Yes. Digital Dojang works on any device with a browser, no app required.
