Evaluation to 6th Gup

Prepare for Rank Advancement

Now that you have completed this course, you may be eligible for rank evaluation and promotion. In order to be eligible to test, please consider the following:

  • You must be a member of the US Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation or the country organization affiliated with the World Moo Duk Kwan. Acquire US federation membership here.
  • Must consistently train a minimum of two hours per week over the past 3-4 months prior to your last promotion and be enrolled in a relevant Digital Dojang Course: White/Orange, Green, or Red Belt course OR the Live Classes.

To successfully complete your test, you must:

  1. Submit the Request to Test form through Wasatch Martial Arts, the parent school of the Digital Dojang that is certified under the World Moo Duk Kwan.
  2. Submit a video through the Digital Dojang of you demonstrating the necessary requirements for rank advancement. Your testing requirements can be found at the end of this page.

Your video submission should follow these standards:

  • Demonstration should be in Moo Duk Kwan standard do bok (training uniform)
  • All demonstrations should have the full body from head to toe in view
  • You must have sufficient space to properly demonstrate each movement without the need for excessive shuffling.
  • All basics should be done on both the right and left side of the body.
  • In forms, one steps and wrist grabs, announce the name of what you are doing and then perform. For example, state "Ki Cho Hyung Il Bu" before performing that form.
  • One steps, wrist grabs, free sparring and board breaking will require a partner.

Testing Format:

Bow towards the camera.

Move into Jhoon Bee (ready position)

Ki Cho Demonstration

Perform the following basic techniques, at least 3 reps, turn, and then 3 more reps as you see in the line basics video in the "Soo Gi: Hand Techniques" section of this course:

  • Ha Dan Soo Do Mahkee (low knife-hand block)
  • Choong Dan Soo Do Mahkee (middle knife-hand block)
  • Sang Dan Soo Do Mahkee (high knife-hand block)
  • Gap Kwon Kong Kyuk (Back Fist)
  • Soo Do Kong Kyuk (Knife Hand Strike)
  • Jang Kwon Kong Kyuk (Palm Heel Strike)

Perform the following kicking techniques, at least 3 reps on each leg. On one side, demonstrate facing the camera. On the other side, face to the side of the camera for a side profile. Remember to start in Jhoon Bee, step back into the proper stance for kicking (Bal Cha Gi Jhoon Bee). Ki hap on the last rep on each side of the body. When done, step back into Ba Ro.

  • Yup Podo Ohl Ri Gi (Side Stretch Kick)
  • Yup Podo Cha Gi (Side Kick)

Hyung Demonstration

From the Jhoon Bee position, state each of the forms below and then demonstrate:

  • Ki Cho Hyung Sam Bu
  • Pyung Ahn Cho Dan

Partner Demonstration

Your partner does not necessarily be a Soo Bahk Do practitioner but should be able to perform well enough so you can demonstrate proper skill. Begin by facing each other at attention (Charyut). Bow towards each other. Move into Jhoon Bee and complete the following:

  • Il Soo Sik (One Steps)
    • Adults 1-2
    • Kids None
  • Ho Sin Sul (Wrist Grabs)
    • Adults Cross Wrist Grab 1-2
    • Kids None

Remember to return back to Ba Ro upon completing each exercise and before the start of the next. Refer to the partner exercise videos on how the proper ceremony and process of performance expected during your demonstration.a

Breaking Demonstration

Adults are required to break a board. You will need a partner. Bring your partner in view of the camera. Face your partner and bow. Have the partner hold the board. Move into Jhoon Bee. Take position and break your board. Upon completion, return to Ba Ro and bow to your partner. Your partner can then leave the view of the camera.

  • Yup Podo Cha Gi (adults)
  • Pahl Koop Kong Kyuk (kids)

Strong Finish

Once completed, from the Jhoon Bee position, come to attention (Charyut) and bow towards the camera. Say Kahmsahamnida (thank you), and yell "Soo Bahk!"

You will demonstrate the hand techniques in this format during your evaluation.
