Introducing the Model Class

Model Class

A model class reflects our 5 moo do values and has proven to be the most effective method to pass information from instructor to student. The class will build upon itself, always reinforcing the theme. You will notice in this section the following pattern for a model 40-minute class

  1. Introduction - Introduce yourself, your theme, and emphasis for the class.
  2. Warmup - Warm the body and move the joints
  3. Moo Do Huri Warmup - Continue the warm up by connecting with your huri.
  4. Ki Cho - Basic techniques
  5. Partner Drills
  6. Free Sparring
  7. Cooldown and Closing

Class Theme or Topic – 10%

The mental concept or topic applied and reinforced throughout the class is referred to as the class theme.  It may be a topic to improve physical performance and/or relates to some aspect of our Moo Duk Kwan philosophy such as the eight key concepts.

Class Emphasis – 90%

The vehicle to transmit the theme or topic such as One Step Sparring, a particular technique, Hyung, ho sin Sul, etc. Your class content revolves around the emphasis.

Class Organization

The mental theme should be carried and applied throughout the class instruction.  The time allowed for a single class can be broken down into sections for ease of organization.   An example of this is shown below for a typical 45-minute class:

Warm up:                       5 minutes

Ki Cho:             10 minutes

Partner Drill:        15 minutes (class emphasis)

Application / Sparring:  10 minutes

Cool down:                     5 minutes
