- 9:00 am: Longevity on the Mat – Sports Medicine Strategies to Recover from Injury and Train at a Higher Level. Col. Joe Scholz Sa Bom, is a board certified physician with a focus on sports medicine who will provide practical training drills that improve athleticism for all age groups.
- 10:30 am: Growth Through Leadership – Building Assistant Instructors Who Multiply Impact and Protect Culture. Taught by Tory Mitchell, Sa Bom, a successful studio owner at Peak Martial Arts in Denver, CO.
- 1:00 pm: When Basics Stop Being Basic – Innovative Teaching Methods That Deepen Skill and Retain Senior Students Host, Brian Corrales Sa Bom, reviews methods to refine even the most advanced students to maintain retention well beyond Dan rank.
Through a mix of lectures and hands-on activities, attendees will gain actionable insights to apply immediately in their dojangs, helping students train smarter, safer, and more effectively.
JOE SCHOLZ SA BOM
COL Joseph T. Scholz, DO, PhD, MC, U.S. Army, is a board-certified physician in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with advanced training in sports medicine. He holds degrees from Millersville University, McDaniel College, Clemson University, Virginia Tech (PhD), and the New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship and PM&R residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and a Sports Medicine Fellowship with NRH/MedStar/Georgetown University in 2023. Recognized by the Army as an “A” Designee for being in the top 10% of his field, COL Scholz currently serves as Battalion Surgeon for the Soldier Recovery Unit at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. His prior assignments include senior leadership roles at the Center for the Intrepid at Joint Base San Antonio–Fort Sam Houston and clinical and consulting positions in Germany supporting Regional Health Command Europe/Africa. Before entering medicine and the Army, he spent more than 17 years in education as a nationally board-certified teacher and builder of award-winning programs. He has also served extensively with the Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, including as President and current trustee.
An accomplished lifelong martial artist, Dr. Scholz began training in 1982 and has studied multiple disciplines including Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan, Savate, boxing, aikido, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He currently holds a 7th Dan (Chil Dan) in Moo Duk Kwan and has participated in more than 20 Ko Dan Ja evaluations. Over decades of teaching, he has guided numerous students to black belt and higher ranks and founded martial arts schools and clubs at universities, military installations, and medical centers in the U.S. and Europe. Now based in Hawaii, he continues to teach while focusing on supporting small karate schools and promoting safe, medically informed training practices. He is married to his wife Nancy, enjoys time with their dog Buddy, and spends his free time on home projects, cycling, and fly fishing.
TORY MITCHELL SA BOM
Master Tory Mitchell is the head instructor at Peak Martial Arts. He has been training in the martial arts for over 15 years. He is experienced in working with all ages, learning styles and fitness levels. Mitchell Sa Bom has competed in many national tournaments and has won numerous national titles. He is the gold medal winner of the 2018 National Men’s Point Sparring competition, a US Hanmadang Board Breaking Champion and record holder. He is a husband and father of three boys who also train.
Your Instructor
Brian Corrales brings over 35 years of martial arts experiences in his courses. He is highly respected in the martial arts community for his pursuit of excellence. His background is in the late Hwang Kee's Moo Duk Kwan system of martial arts known as Soo Bahk Do and Tang Soo Do. This includes principles found within Okinawan Karate, Tan Tui, Ba Duan Jin, Tai Chi, Kwon Bup (as found in the Moo Yei Do Bo Tong Ji). This same style is one of the dominant elements of modern-day Tae Kwon Do.
In 2010, Brian participated in the infamous Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa, an 8-day Masters Test in the mountains of California in 2008 and again in Switzerland in 2013. He is currently a 6th Dan (6th degree black belt equivalent) in the art of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan and holds Dan #36364. He is also a certified Sa Bom, designating him as a “master model” instructor. This is the highest level of teaching certification that Soo Bahk Do offers.
Brian is currently appointed by Kwan Jang Nim HC Hwang as a member of the USA Technical Advisory Committee of the US Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation. Brian is a seeker of knowledge and his classes given unique insight that he has acquired from his diversity of training.
